Jarosław Czapliński

Mgr Jarosław Czapliński, holder of the master’s degree in biology, graduated from the Faculty of Biology and Environment Protection at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Since August 1989 he has been employed in the Provincial Polyclinic Hospital in Elbląg; since December 1995 at the position of the Head of the Central Sterilization and Disinfection Department. Between 1996 and 2006 he was the chair of the Board for Hospital Acquired Infections. Since 2001 Jarosław Czapliński has represented the Provincial Polyclinic Hospital in Elbląg in the Polish Committee for Standardisation as a member of Technical Committee no. 295 for Sterilization. He is an author of several publications that appeared in trade press – a trade newsletter and medical magazines. He has pursued educational activity within the fields of sterilisation in its broad sense, protection against and counteracting infections as well as safety and hygiene at work in central sterilisation departments. Between 2002 and 2004 he was a board member of the Association of Heads of Central Sterilization and Disinfection Departments in Hospitals (currently: the Polish Association for the Development of Medical Sterilisation and Disinfection). On January 19th, 2007 he was appointed a member of a board of experts for developing a project of the Minister of Health regulation on standards for sterilization and disinfection in healthcare centres. He is also a co-author of ‘the 2011 general principles for sterilisation of medical materials and other reusable items used while providing health care and carrying out other activities which may potentially lead to passing an infectious disease or an infection ’. This was worked out jointly by the experts of the Association for Health Care Hygiene, the Polish Association for the Development of Medical Sterilisation and Disinfection, the Department for Counteracting Biological Contamination, the National Institute of Public Health – the National Institute of Hygiene and the Polish Association of Infection-Control Nurses.
